Attention all patrons, parents, actors, and anyone who might find themselves coming and going from the Playhouse in the next couple of weeks!
This is important information for parents dropping their kids off at rehearsals for Aladdin Jr at the Playhouse (and eventually families, friends, and patrons coming to see the show October 16-25) and for parents bringing their kids to start Fall Education Classes at the Playhouse Conservatory.
According to the Duluth News Tribune (article here):
“Michigan Street between Fifth and Sixth avenues West in downtown Duluth will close starting at 7 a.m. Monday (October 5) so that Minnesota Power can perform work on underground electrical feeder lines that serve the Canal Park area.
The closure is expected to last several weeks; the city of Duluth reported that Minnesota Power expects to complete the work by Oct. 30.”
Here’s what we know for sure:
1.) Michigan Street between 6th Avenue West and 5th Avenue West will be closed during this work.
2.) The I-35 Michigan Street off-ramp will be closed and traffic will be detoured to Superior Street.
3.) The stoplight traffic signal at 6th Avenue West and Superior Street will be shut off and converted to a 4-way sign controlled stop.
4.) 6th Avenue West between Michigan Street and Superior Street will be converted to two-way traffic using interim striping. Detour signage will be added to route traffic around the work, to the Depot, and to the parking ramps.
5.) The parking ramp at 6th Avenue West will remain open and accessible.
6.) Sidewalks along Michigan Street will remain open during construction.
We’ll keep you posted as the construction progresses, but it’s important to know the parking ramps are still accessible and the sidewalks are open!
Call 218.733.7555 if you still have questions. We look forward to having you at the Playhouse and Underground theatres soon!
