Guys and Dolls Rolling In July 16th at The Playhouse!

The Duluth Playhouse will be opening “Guys and Dolls” July 16, 2015 and runs through August 2, 2015.

“One of the funniest and melodious shows in seasons. Everything about it seems practically perfect!” – Variety, 1950

For those of you who don’t know much about this show, let me give you the run down…

Guys and Dolls opened on November 24, 1950 and ran for a whopping 1,200 performances. The 1976 revival starring Robert Guillaume and an all black cast ran for 239 performances. The show was revived again in 1992 and ran for almost as long as the original! Woah! In 1955 a film version was created starring Marlon Brando, Jean Simmons, Frank Sinatra, and Vivian Blaine was the highest box office grossing film of 1955. I think you can say this show was pretty popular.

The original show won 8 Tony Awards including: Best Musical, Best Actor in a Musical, Best Choreography, and Best Director.

The 1992 Revival won 4 Tony Awards including: Best Direction of a Musical, Best Revival, Best Actress, and Best Scenic Design.

It’s a pretty impressive show, so you should probably come check it out, starting next week. Come one, come all to The Duluth Playhouse for “Guys and Dolls”.
